About Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable and often disabling autoimmune disease. It can affect any part of the body at any time, triggering surprise attacks in some people and causing steady, chronic damage to others. There is no known cure.

  • Multiple sclerosis affects women three times as often as men.
  • Canada has one of the highest rates of MS in the world, with one in two Canadians knowing someone with the disease. Every day, three more Canadians are diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
  • More children are being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis than ever before.
  • Though rates of diagnosis are slightly higher with heredity, the disease can strike anyone.
  • The rate of discovery in multiple sclerosis research, especially in Canada, is phenomenal – through a revolutionary, collaborative movement among researchers across the country, the time is right to end MS.
