John-Paul Michalski
My name is John-Paul Michalski. I am a second year Masters student in neuroscience at the University of Ottawa. I spend most of my days in the lab working with DNA and animal models. The lab focus is on understanding the mechanisms involved in neuromuscular diseases, in particular, multiple sclerosis. My current project entails elucidating the role of a specific protein, integrin-linked kinase, in myelin formation in the central nervous system. When I finish my Masters I plan to continue research, at a PhD level, into the cellular and molecular components of MS.
When I am not in the lab, you can find me thinking about how I should be in the lab. I also enjoy reading, playing soccer, and long drawn out arguments with colleagues (some of which I win). I recently took part in my first MS Walk and truly enjoyed the experience.
I am excited to talk science with the MS community and look forward to answering any questions you may have!
