Corporate Canada is a super-hero!

August 31, 2009 Michael AugustineLisez en Francais

I am a huge fan of comic books, and am not ashamed to admit that I “geek-out” with the best of them when discussing my passion. I have frequented the same comic book shop for the last two decades in order to feed my cravings for 4-coloured adventures, and I’ve made a number of good friends among the store staff who help me get my regular weekly fix.

One friend, who now works for a major corporation, recently reminded me that he and I had discussed my impending voyage to Mount Everest Base Camp. He also advised me that he made mention of my goal to his superiors, who suggested to him that I submit my proposal to their newly formed fundraising initiative, which was created to support causes exactly like mine.

Needless to say, I was stunned by his kindness for having gone to bat for me. I thanked him profusely, and immediately rushed home to work on that proposal, submitting it a few days later. Well, I am happy to report that approval for funding has just been tentatively approved.

For now, I can neither reveal the identity of the company in question, nor the specific dollar amount until all the details have been finalized, but I would hope this experience can teach everyone a valuable lesson.

In our battle, yours and mine, to defeat the villain called multiple sclerosis, heroes can be found wherever you look (sometimes without even looking that hard). Never be afraid to share your personal story, or your dream of being able to find that cure. The next person you talk to might be that one individual who weighs in to tip the scales, shifting the balance in our favour in fight to end MS.

Spider-man says that: “with great power comes great responsibility.” Your power is your unwavering hope that we will find a cure for MS. Your responsibility is to share that hope with as many people as you possibly can.

After all, you never know when you’ll next meet a hero in disguise.

Irreverently yours,
Aug, who will reveal this corporate hero’s secret identity soon...
