I love to bake!
While I’m already known throughout the MS Society of Canada for my omnipresent participation at events, you may not realize that I am as equally infamous for my frequent offerings of baked goods to the office pool at the Society’s headquarters in Toronto, Ontario.
Just yesterday, I made yet another of my “foodie” visits, this time with over one dozen loaves of dessert bread in tow. I do truly enjoy feeding the bodies and souls of the exceptional staff and managers. I consider it a true privilege to be able to personally thank these dedicated men and woman in my own unique fashion... plus, to be honest, I do so enjoy bragging about what a great baker I am! (ah, vanity)
However, while I love volunteering and baking, I also LOVE fundraising!
Last year, I decided to try a novel approach by combining all my passions. The result worked out so well that I managed to accumulate significant money towards helping the MS Society realize its mission: to be a leader in finding a cure for multiple sclerosis and to enable people affected by MS to enhance their quality of life.
To that end, I am again knee-deep in flour and chocolate, this time to raise money for the 2009 MS Walk. Essentially, I go to all my family, friends, associates and acquaintances, and provided them with baked offerings in exchange for supporting me in my efforts to end MS! It’s a successful exchange, and to date this endeavor has helped me raise thousands of dollars - much-need resources that the MS Society uses to help support cutting edge and innovative research, and also to maintain ongoing services for the 55,000 to 75,000 Canadians living with MS.
However, I am not the only person who does something like this. There are thousands of Canadians from all walks of life, each of whom who has their own unique way of supporting their fundraising efforts - some hold dinners, like the recent MS Global Dinner Party, while others may have head-shaving events or fashion shows; some even have live auctions or comedy nights.
Therefore, I am throwing out my next challenge to you, my fellow Canadians: what do YOU do in your own unique way to fundraise? Share with me your own novel approaches, or the more tried and true methods that never seem to fail you. I’ll see that your ideas get posted here, so that other people may learn from your suggestions, and reach greater and greater triumphs in their fundraising activities.
Together we will help each other succeed! Together - we WILL end MS!
Irreverently Yours,
Aug, who has an idea that 2009 is going to amaze people...
